301) Full cantilevered jib crane

A form of wall mounted or column mounted jib crane that utilizes a vertical pivoted member and a bridge or mast that extends at right angles to the pivoting member.  This design adds the advantage of having the jib boom at the highest hook lift , thus taking advantage of an entire building height.

302) Wall traveling jib crane

A traveling jib crane consisting of a fixed or moveable hoisting mechanism and operating on a runway attached to the side walls or columns of a building.

303) Work station crane

An overhead crane generally used for ergonomic purposes and consisting of bridge(s) and runways made from enclosed metal track.  End trucks attached to the bridge girder allow for ease of movement. The entire system is designed to allow workers to move loads by hand pushing the load with the assistance of a vertical lifting device such as a hoist or vacuum lifter.

304) Truss girder crane

An overhead traveling crane designed with structurally reinforced bridge girders to allow greater span and loading capabilities.  The reinforcement consists of utilization of trusses extended vertically and horizontally from the load bearing beam(s) of the crane bridge.

305) Semigantry crane

A gantry crane designed to have one "leg" of the crane supporting an end of the bridge and the other end of the bridge is supported by an end truck running on an elevated rail or runway.  Often referred to as a semigantry crane.

306) Cantilevered gantry crane

A single or double legged gantry crane designed so that the bridge girder extends over the leg or legs so as to form a cantilevered configuration.  Such a design increases the loading surface of the bridge girder therein increasing the reach capabilities of the gantry crane.

307) Wall mounted jib crane

May also be referred to as a bracket mounted jib crane.  The wall mounted jib crane is to the wall of a building by utilizing brackets.  These brackets allow the jib to pivot from wall to wall in a given radius. Jib cranes may also be bracket mounted to columns. These jib cranes usually incorporate tie rods to add stability to the farthest point of the bridge beam.

308) Drop cantilevered jib crane

Similar to a full cantilevered jib crane with the exception of a column or beam connection that allows the load beam or boom to be mounted at any point on the column or mast.

309) Push type crane

An overhead traveling crane whose horizontal travel is powered manually or by the operator.  Often work station cranes are push type cranes.  This crane may or may not utilize powered hoist or lifting mechanisms.

310) Monorail Manufacturers Association, Inc. (MMA) Industry Group

Founded in 1933, The Monorail Manufacturers Association, Inc. (MMA) is an independent incorporated trade association affiliated with the Material Handling Industry. MMA Members produce the preponderance of patented and enclosed track underhung cranes and monorail systems.

311) Monorail Manufacturers Association

An independent incorporated trade association affiliated with the Material Handling Industry.  The membership of MMA is made up of companies which produce the preponderance of patented and enclosed track underhung cranes and monorail systems.   Monorail Manufacturers Association, Inc. 8720 Red Oak Blvd., Suite 201 Charlotte, NC 28217 Phone: (704) 676-1190    Fax: (704) 676-1199 Hal Vandiver, Managing Director hvandiver @mhia.org

312) Track switch

A device with a moving section of monorail or patented track that can be moved to permit the passage of a carrier or trolley from one fixed track to another.

313) Track section

A piece or section of a monorail or patented track system.

314) Tractor drive

An electrically or pneumatically powered drive mechanism that attaches to a trolley or carrier, via a tow bar, and allows the trolley/carrier to move on a monorail or negotiate switches, curves and drop sections.   Manually powered trolleys or carriers can be retrofitted with tractor drives, in some cases.

315) I beam track

Track sections utilizing standard shape/I-beams.
