661) AS/RS
AS/RS is becoming a generic term that today refers to a variety of means under computer control for automatically depositing and retrieving loads from defined storage locations. See also Carousels . Although both of these technologies have roots that go back some 40 to 50 years, it is only since the late 1990s that AS/RS has been used to refer to more than crane and aisle applications.
662) Hoists
A suspended machinery unit that is used for lifting or lowering a freely suspended (unguided) load. May be manually operated or electrically or pneumatically driven and may use chain or wire rope as its lifting medium.
663) Monorails
A single run of overhead track on which carriers (trolleys) travel.
664) Ratchet hoist
A lever operated manual device used to lift. lower, or pull a load and to apply or release tension. Utilizes a ratchet and pawl mechanical configuration to incrementally raise or lower a load or to apply or release tension.
665) Ratchet lever hoist
A lever operated manual device used to lift. lower, or pull a load and to apply or release tension. Utilizes a ratchet and pawl mechanical configuration to incrementally raise or lower a load or to apply or release tension.
666) Crane
A machine for lifting and lowering a load, and moving it horizontally. Drives may be manual, power, or a combination of both.
667) Shuttles
Shuttles are used for the automated handling of totes, trays, cartons or all three in the same system – for either warehousing or manufacturing.
668) Cube-based storage
Ultra-high density goods-to-person piece picking system which utilizes robots to store and retrieve inventory bins from a cubical storage grid.
