496) LMS

Labor Management Systems Labor Management Systems optimize the deployment of labor resources by establishing realistic performance standards and matching those standards to planned activity for optimal scheduling.  Also used to monitor team and individual performance for pay and incentive purposes.

In electrical terms, direct current (as opposed to AC which is alternating current).

498) Manifesting

The act of creating a statement which describes and/or lists the load on a vehicle in transit.

The amount of space occupied by an item or the volume within a system or building.

500) Bar code

Utilizes a system of printed bars that are able to be scanned and enables the user to identify a part or parcel.  Used in conjunction with a laser scanner and serves to increase accuracy and speed of product identification.

501) Automatic data collection

Automatic identification.  A system which utilizes bar codes and other symbologies to provide information.

502) Sortation

Separating items (parcels, boxes, cartons, parts, etc.) according to their intended destination within a plant or for transit.

503) Carousel

Carousels are a technology used to store items for eventual picking or retrieval. There are two primary types of carousels and one related technology, all of which operate under some form of computer control. 504) Benchmarking

A measurement process that establishes goals, operating targets and production expectations and can be used for comparison in an effort to achieve maximum efficiency of operation, i.e job evaluation, rating of performance, cost estimating and standards.

505) Voice recognition

The ability to receive , recognize and/or understand voice commands.  Usually associated with computer directed systems utilized for process control and data collection.

506) Radio frequency

A communication medium by which motor and controls are directed by means of high and low frequency radio transmission directives.  Often referred to as a Wireless Controls .

Infrared is a line of sight, wireless remote data communication technology.

508) Welded wire container

A metal container fabricated from welded wire as a completed assembly for containment, with the possible addition of structural sections for additional strength and with optional hardware added for specific use and application.  There are three (3) basic types of welded wire containers: folding, non-folding, and rigid.

509) Folding container

A container, either metal or plastic, with sides, ends, and a base so constructed that it can be folded to a flat configuration.

510) Non-folding container

A container with corners permanently helixed and is subject to the same specifications as "folding containers".
