106) Container
A receptacle (such as a box, enclosure) or a formed or flexible covering for the packing or shipment of articles, goods, or commodities. Containers may be constructed of plastic, welded wire, corrugated steel or aluminum.

107) Empty pallet stacker
A transporter or device used to distribute, move and store empty pallets.
108) Notched stringer
The stringer on a pallet that possesses identical notches which are spaced such as to allow forks to enter pallet.
109) All way entry pallet
The construction of the pallet allows entry from all sides and ends by a fork truck.
110) Detachable frame pallet
A pallet that features a frame or superstructure that is removable.
111) Pallet dimensions
Measurement points to determine a pallet's dimensions:
Length=distance between pallet ends (inclusive of overhang) and parallel to the stringer(s).
Width=distance between pallet sides at right angles to the pallet length inclusive of any overhang
Height=distance from the outer edges of the bottom deckboards to the outer edges of the top deckboard.
Pallet dimensions are generally shown in inches.
112) Pallet double wing
A pallet constructed in such a way as to have the top deck extending out from opposite sides.
113) Exchange pallet
Refers to a pallet that is used by several shippers whose ownership is transferred when the ownership of the unit load is transferred.
114) Pallet exchange program
A program agreed upon by several shippers and receivers with each party assuming responsibility for the total inventory of pallets. These parties exchange pallets on a one-for-one basis with each transaction recorded and documented. Program provides cost savings in off loading time and time pressures on warehousing personnel.
115) RPCPA
The Reusable Plastic Pallet & Container Association (RPCPA) was created by a group of visionary manufacturers who design, fabricate and apply Reusable Plastic Pallet and Container Solutions on a worldwide scale.
A product section of the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA), RPCPA members make a substantial commitment of time & resources to the long-term health and welfare of the industry.
RPCPA programming is intended to:
Create awareness and recognition of Reusable Plastic Pallet and Container Solutions as environmentally friendly and cost effective platform for material handling and logistics
Develop and deliver important information on proper application and use through publications and educational activities
116) Plastic pallet
A device used for moving and storing freight. It is used as a base for assembling, storing, stacking, handling, and transporting goods as a unit load. Commonly, it is about four feet square and is so constructed to facilitate the placement of a lift truck's forks between the levels of a platform so it may be moved easily.
117) Rack
A single or multi-level structural storage system that is utilized to support high stacking of single items or palletized loads
118) Order picking
Order picking or order selection is the process of retrieving individual items (from storage locations) for the purpose of fulfilling an order for a customer. Schemes by which to achieve efficient order picking will vary widely. However, in all cases it involves locating the items in storage; creating a plan for retrieving the items; physically picking the items (either automatically or manually); sorting and/or assembling them into discrete orders; and in the end even packaging the orders for delivery. Although defined as a process, order picking cannot be achieved without the appropriate computer software and mechanical equipment, including the storage medium, such as pallet racks, shelving, AS/RS (including carousels) and flow delivery racks, and a means for transporting items from receiving to storage and from storage to packaging and shipment. A variety of industrial trucks and conveyors will be found in most order picking applications. Order picking may also involve robotic like devices for physically picking discrete items from their storage location. See also Warehouse Management Systems or WMS .
119) Lift
The maximum vertical distance through which the load hook can travel. The total allowable hook movement between its upper limit of travel and its lower limit of travel.
The term "Lift" or "Lifts" may also refer to lift tables, scissor lifts and personnel lifts.
Lift tables are ergonomic devices utilized to raise, lower or tilt work loads such as pallets and containers. Lift tables are a scissors lift device used to raise, lower, stack, convey and/or transfer material between two or more elevations and not limited to landings. Such movement enables the worker to access the load at an acceptable level so as to not exert undue physical strain while working with the item(s).
A scissors lift is a raising/lowering device that is supported or stabilized by one or more pantograph leg sections.
Likewise, personnel lifts are used to raise and lower humans to appropriate working heights so that they may work at a safe reaching level and will have benefit of increased movement not afforded by a conventional ladder.
120) Reusable Container & Pallet Association (RCPA) Industry Group
