46) Explosion proof

Equipment designed in accordance with existing codes and standards such that it will opearate in a specified hazardous environment without causing an explosion.  For further information, contact the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).

47) Accumulation conveyor

Any conveyor designed to permit accumulation of packages, objects, or carriers.  May be roller, live roller, roller slat, belt, vibrating, power-and-free or tow conveyors.

48) Arm conveyor

A conveyor consisting of an endless belt, one or more chains, to which are attached projecting arms, or shelves, for handling packages or objects in a vertical or inclined path.

49) A-frame conveyor

A conveyor support frame with main members set on slopes suggesting the letter "A".

50) Rack Manufacturers Institute, Inc. (RMI) Industry Group

The Storage Manufacturers Association (SMA) members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of industrial storage equipment. They supply storage solutions worldwide and in virtually every major manufacturing and distribution sector. Industrial storage equipment includes steel shelving, industrial work platforms (mezzanines), work and assembly stations, modular drawer equipment, clothing storage lockers, movable base storage equipment, storage containers and directly related equipment.

51) Crane Manufacturers Association of America (CMAA) Industry Group

CMAA is the Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc., an independent trade association affiliated with the Material Handling Industry. CMAA traces its roots to the Electric Overhead Crane Institute, known as EOCI, which was founded in 1927 by leading crane manufacturers of that time to promote the standardization of cranes as well as uniform quality and performance. The voluntary association was incorporated as the Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc. in 1955. Member Companies, representing the industry leaders in the overhead crane industry, serve the United States market from operations based in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

52) Crane Association

The Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc. (CMAA) , an independent trade association affiliated with the United States Division of Material Handling Industry. The voluntary association of CMAA members has existed since 1955. Member companies represent industry leaders in the overhead crane market. 53) Crane Manufacturers

As applies to Members of the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA), this term usually applies to manufacturers of overhead traveling cranes, jib cranes, stacker cranes, and gantry cranes to the exclusion of mobile cranes, tower cranes or devices otherwise referred to as construction cranes.

54) Bucket loader

A form of portable, self-feeding, inclined bucket elevator for loading bulk materials into cars, trucks, or other conveyors.

55) Testing

The Material Handling Industry of America is an ANSI accredited standard developing entity. The various Product Sections affiliated with MHIA have developed a number of testing and design standards for various types of material handling equipment. 56) Specification

The Product Sections affiliated with the Material Handling Industry of America have and continue to develop specifications and standards for performance, testing, safety and design of various types of material handling equipment. 57) Code

Also referred to as "symbolgy".  Code is a particular pattern of bars and spaces that serve to deliver information in bar code form.  Characters to be included, how these characters are to be represented, and the distance between the lines and spaces are unique to each symbology.  There are 20+ symbologies currently in use. The term "code" may also refer to standards and specifications.

58) Literature

The Material Handling Industry houses the Material Handling Institute Bookstore which contains a significant amount of literature related to the industry.  These offerings include introductory materials, standards and specifications, application guidelines for various types of equipment and "classic" papers on a variety of subjects penned by experts in the field of material handling equipment and processes. 59) Project management

Project management is a combination of project evaluation and scheduling with the additon of project coordination and control.  Effective project managment takes into account cash flow and present worth, decision tree analysis, critical resource analysis and critical path scheduling.

60) Justmat

A comprehensive, user-friendly software decision support system geared for both individual and team use. Developed in visual basic for use on a PC in Microsoft Windows operating environment, the system supports the detailed analysis of discounted cash flow as well as the anticipated benefits that are not easy to quantify in terms of dollar returns. The software and the user manual come complete on a CD ROM.
