31) Air wire rope hoist
A pneumatically driven machinery unit, utilizing wire rope as its lifting medium, and used for the lifting and lowering of a freely suspended (unguided) load. Often used in environments that require electric spark avoidance due to a potentially explosive atmosphere.
32) Hoist Manufacturers Institute (HMI) Industry Group
The Hoist Manufacturers Institute (HMI) members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of hoisting equipment including hand chain hoists, ratchet lever hoists, trolleys, air chain hoist, air wire rope hoists, electric chain hoists, and electric wire manufacturing and distribution sector.
33) Single girder crane
An overhead traveling crane that utilizes a single bridge beam attached to the two runway/end trucks. This bridge beam or single girder supports a lifting mechanism or hoist that "runs" on the bottom flange of the bridge beam.
34) Gear motor
A commonly used term that designates a hoist that derives its lifting and lowering power from a mechanical setup involving a gear set and pneumatic or electric motor.
35) Chain hoist
Generally, any hoist which utilizes link or roller chain as its lifting medium. Chain hoists can be manually operated (hand or lever), pneumatically driven, or electrically driven.
36) Electric Hoist
A suspended machinery unit that is powered by electrically driven motors and is used to lift or lower a freely suspended (unguided) load. Generally uses chain or wire rope as its lifting medium.
37) Wire rope puller
A lever operated manual device, utilizing wire rope, used to lift, lower, or pull a load and to apply or release tension. See Ratchet lever hoist .
38) Trolley hoist
A hoist suspended from a trolley. A hoist can be connected to a trolley by hook or clevis, or a hoist can be integral with the trolley.
39) Double girder crane
An overhead traveling bridge crane that utilizes two bridge beams set atop the runway (end) trucks. Generally this type of crane utilizes a top running trolley hoist which moves along the top of the two bridge beams on its own set of trucks/trolley wheels. The hook from the hoist "falls" between the two bridge beams. Headroom under the crane is increased by utilizing this hoist/crane configuration.
40) Jib crane
A stationary or fixed crane that utilizes a cantilevered bridge (girder) supported from a stationary vertical support. The jib crane generally utilizes a lifting device (hoist) that is mounted on the horizontal boom (jib).
41) Overhead travelling crane
A crane with a single or multiple girder (bridge girder) bridge carrying a movable or fixed hoisting mechanism and traveling on an overhead fixed runway structure.
42) Comealong
A common term for a ratchet lever hoist. See Ratchet lever hoist .
43) Overhead crane
A crane with a single or multiple girder (bridge girder) bridge carrying a movable or fixed hoisting mechanism and traveling on an overhead fixed runway structure.
44) Hoists
A suspended machinery unit that is used for lifting or lowering a freely suspended (unguided) load. May be manually operated or electrically or pneumatically driven and may use chain or wire rope as its lifting medium.
45) Ratchet hoist
A lever operated manual device used to lift. lower, or pull a load and to apply or release tension. Utilizes a ratchet and pawl mechanical configuration to incrementally raise or lower a load or to apply or release tension.
