16) Truss girder crane
An overhead traveling crane designed with structurally reinforced bridge girders to allow greater span and loading capabilities. The reinforcement consists of utilization of trusses extended vertically and horizontally from the load bearing beam(s) of the crane bridge.
17) Semigantry crane
A gantry crane designed to have one "leg" of the crane supporting an end of the bridge and the other end of the bridge is supported by an end truck running on an elevated rail or runway. Often referred to as a semigantry crane.
18) Cantilevered gantry crane
A single or double legged gantry crane designed so that the bridge girder extends over the leg or legs so as to form a cantilevered configuration. Such a design increases the loading surface of the bridge girder therein increasing the reach capabilities of the gantry crane.
19) Wall mounted jib crane
May also be referred to as a bracket mounted jib crane. The wall mounted jib crane is to the wall of a building by utilizing brackets. These brackets allow the jib to pivot from wall to wall in a given radius. Jib cranes may also be bracket mounted to columns. These jib cranes usually incorporate tie rods to add stability to the farthest point of the bridge beam.
20) Drop cantilevered jib crane
Similar to a full cantilevered jib crane with the exception of a column or beam connection that allows the load beam or boom to be mounted at any point on the column or mast.
21) Push type crane
An overhead traveling crane whose horizontal travel is powered manually or by the operator. Often work station cranes are push type cranes. This crane may or may not utilize powered hoist or lifting mechanisms.
22) Monorail Manufacturers Association, Inc. (MMA) Industry Group
Founded in 1933, The Monorail Manufacturers Association, Inc. (MMA) is an independent incorporated trade association affiliated with the Material Handling Industry. MMA Members produce the preponderance of patented and enclosed track underhung cranes and monorail systems.

24) Automatic Storage & Retrieval Systems
AS/RS is becoming a generic term that today refers to a variety of means under computer control for automatically depositing and retrieving loads from defined storage locations. See also Carousels . Although both of these technologies have roots that go back some 40 to 50 years, it is only since the late 1990s that AS/RS has been used to refer to more than crane and aisle applications.
25) Data transmission
The use of sensors to transmit data via pulse-modulated light beam systems typically from host stations to mobile carriers such as AGV's or stacker cranes.
26) Electrification
The track mounted conductor system by which the moving equipment receives its electrical power. All of the electrical components that go into providing power to an electric overhead crane or jib crane. These components may include power bar, collectors, collector rings, pendent stations, and tagline/festooning.
27) Tagline
An electrical conductor system employing flexible cables which are festooned along the bridge or runway. The cable is attached to trolleys or hooks which operate on a rigid bar or tight wire along the entire bridge width or runway length. This arrangement serves to keep the cables "out of the way" of the crane and hoist movement.
28) Carrier
Also known as a trolley. A unit that travels on the bottom flange of a monorail or patented track beam, jib crane or bridge girder to transport a load.
Also refers to a trucking line used to transport materials to and from a distribution center.
29) Pallet lifter
A below-the-hook lifting device that utilizes forks in its design and serves to take the role of forklift forks while utilizing the capabilities of a crane and/or hoist. Generally, counterweighted at its top and attached via a bail and hook arrangement.
30) Lifting beam
A solid or fabricated metal or wooden beam, suspended from a hoist/crane or from forks of a forklift, designed to provide multiple lifting points. The lifting beam enables the user to attach the load at more than one point therein securing and controlling the load's movement.
