16) Vacuum lifter

A lifting device utilizing the creation of vacuum to attach itself to an object via the use of an electric-powered extraction pump and sealed pads. Generally suspended from a hoist/crane, manipulator, balancer, or positioner.  Often attaches to the lifting mechanism by means of a bail and hook arrangement or is an integral part of the positioning and lifting mechanism.

A  facility utilized to store, protect and secure items for inventory or staging for shipment.

18) Warehouse Management System

An execution system used to manage people, inventory, time, and equipment related to picking and processing customer orders.  The Warehouse Management System receives orders from the Order Management System or the Transportation Management System, then relies on rules and priorities established by the user to optimize the space and work within the four walls of the warehouse.

19) Voice recognition

The ability to receive , recognize and/or understand voice commands.  Usually associated with computer directed systems utilized for process control and data collection.

20) Welded wire container

A metal container fabricated from welded wire as a completed assembly for containment, with the possible addition of structural sections for additional strength and with optional hardware added for specific use and application.  There are three (3) basic types of welded wire containers: folding, non-folding, and rigid.

21) Wheel chock

Blocks of rubber, wood or metal placed in front of, between or behind truck wheels to prevent accidental trailer movement.

22) Weather seal

A rubber or canvas covered pad or drape that extends out from the dock face to seal the gap between the dock and the trailer's entrance.

23) Wrap around

An attachment to a pallet which, when placed on the top of a pallet load, adds support and stability to the load and enables pallet loads to be stacked one upon the other.

24) Wire rope hoist

A hoist that utilizes wire rope as the lifting medium. Often powered electrically or pneumatically. This lifting device is made up of a rope storage drum, motor(s), gear box and braking system and is suspended from a monorail or bridge beam(s) by means of a trolley.  May also be mounted in a staionary manner. Manual wire rope hoist are generally referred to as "pullers" and operate utilizing a ratchet and pawl tensioning technology.

25) Wire rope puller

A lever operated manual device, utilizing wire rope, used to lift, lower, or pull a load and to apply or release tension.  See Ratchet lever hoist .
