121) Shipping Container Code(SCC)

Achieved by adding a two digit code to the front of the standard UPC Code.

122) Storage aisle

An access route to storage areas such as rack bays, slots for pallets, bins or containers.

123) Stringer

The support beams of a pallet which generally are placed at right angles to the deckboards and designated as edge stringers or center stringers.

124) Stringer board

A component of a pallet that is a solid board placed between the deckboard and the block and extending the full length of a block pallet.

125) Stringer chord

Generally refers to the upper edge of a notched stringer.

126) Stringer foot

Generally refers to the bottom or lower edge of a notched stringer.

127) Tie

Term used to describe a layer of product positioned in a unit load or on a pallet.

128) Tie down

A means by which a unit load is secured to a pallet, usually by means of stretch wrapping, shrink wrapping or strapping.

129) Tier

Generally refers to one layer of a unitized pallet load.  Also, may refer to layers of storage which are of the same height.

130) UCS

Uniform Container Symbol...Designation for product identification which generally utilizes bar codes and is imprinted on the product container or packaging.

131) Underhang

Refers to the less than complete utilization of the full pallet area and is generally the amount of space between the outer edge of the cartons or packages and the edges of the pallet.

132) Uniformly distributed load.

The per square inch weight of the pallet load does not vary from one point to another on the pallet.  Indicates that the load on a pallet is evenly distributed. Any static load which is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the rack deck. A load, as on a shelf, or pair of load beams, supported by all, or nearly all of the shelf or beam supporting surfaces

133) Unit load picking

The act of removing unit loads from stock or storage.

134) Single deck pallet

A pallet possessing one load bearing deck.

135) Tote

A container generally used for order-picking and shipping of items.  Usually small in size and easily moved by hand or other lifting devices and designed to be durable and reusable.
