1) Conveyor & Sortation Systems (CSS) Industry Group

The Conveyor & Sortation Systems (CSS) members are the Industry’s leading providers of conveyors and sortation systems. They design, fabricate and install conveyor and sortation systems worldwide and in virtually every major manufacturing and distribution sector. CSS prepares and distributes educational and promotional materials regarding the proper application and benefits of conveyor and sortation system solutions.

2) Bombadier sorter

A device in which items are dropped down through swinging doors to a desired location.

3) Automated dispenser

A series of vertical product dispensers which kick individual units of products out the bottom onto a conveyor.

4) Bar code reader

A device used to identify and read a bar code symbol.

5) Conveyor belt

A belt used to carry materials and transmit power required to move the load being conveyed.

6) Accumulation conveyor

Any conveyor designed to permit accumulation of packages, objects, or carriers.  May be roller, live roller, roller slat, belt, vibrating, power-and-free or tow conveyors.

7) Arm conveyor

A conveyor consisting of an endless belt, one or more chains, to which are attached projecting arms, or shelves, for handling packages or objects in a vertical or inclined path.

8) A-frame conveyor

A conveyor support frame with main members set on slopes suggesting the letter "A".

9) Crane Manufacturers Association of America (CMAA) Industry Group

CMAA is the Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc., an independent trade association affiliated with the Material Handling Industry. CMAA traces its roots to the Electric Overhead Crane Institute, known as EOCI, which was founded in 1927 by leading crane manufacturers of that time to promote the standardization of cranes as well as uniform quality and performance. The voluntary association was incorporated as the Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc. in 1955. Member Companies, representing the industry leaders in the overhead crane industry, serve the United States market from operations based in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

10) Crane Association

The Crane Manufacturers Association of America, Inc. (CMAA) , an independent trade association affiliated with the United States Division of Material Handling Industry. The voluntary association of CMAA members has existed since 1955. Member companies represent industry leaders in the overhead crane market. 11) Crane Manufacturers

As applies to Members of the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA), this term usually applies to manufacturers of overhead traveling cranes, jib cranes, stacker cranes, and gantry cranes to the exclusion of mobile cranes, tower cranes or devices otherwise referred to as construction cranes.

12) Bucket loader

A form of portable, self-feeding, inclined bucket elevator for loading bulk materials into cars, trucks, or other conveyors.

13) Code

Also referred to as "symbolgy".  Code is a particular pattern of bars and spaces that serve to deliver information in bar code form.  Characters to be included, how these characters are to be represented, and the distance between the lines and spaces are unique to each symbology.  There are 20+ symbologies currently in use. The term "code" may also refer to standards and specifications.

14) Agile manufacturing

Manufacturing that is able to move with speed and ease.  Manufacturing, that through planning and equipping, is able to move nimbly with the currents of business demands.

15) CAD

Computer aided design.  A computer software system that allows the user to "draw" and design objects "on a screen" as opposed to the traditional method of drafting and prototyping.
