Conveyor Handler Field Service Technician (Remote/Travel)


SUMMARY:  Field Service Technicians perform installation and field service work primarily on the company’s conveyor products.  Assemble equipment with ability to understand how individual pieces of equipment relate to each other in large material handling systems. Person will perform tasks of mechanical and electrical assembly.  Person will coordinate the activities of large assembly projects with shop floor resources, supervision, and engineering. Individuals in this role must be knowledgeable about the construction, setup, control and operation of company products and must also be able to troubleshoot the same.  The position requires frequent travel, including overnight.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.   Other duties may be assigned. 

 

  • Travel to customer locations to install company products. 
  • Travel to customer locations to perform service work on company’s (or competitors’) products.
  • Understand blueprints and electrical schematic
  • Coordinate sophisticated projects with several assemblers and electricians
  • Understand trouble shooting of equipment to ensure quality compliance 
  • Interface, both on the phone and face to face, with customers to analyze and troubleshoot issues involving the performance of product as it pertains to a specific application.
  • Travel to customer locations to analyze and troubleshoot issues involving the performance of product as it pertains to a specific application.
  • Supervise subcontractors as required to complete an installation or service project.
  • Assemble product in house when not traveling
  • Complete quality assurance documentation as required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A high degree of general mechanical aptitude relative to industrial equipment is required.
  • A high degree of electrical knowledge is required, including the ability to troubleshoot control circuits.
  • A working knowledge of mechanical systems including chain and belt drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, burners and fuel trains is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
  • Good Communication skills
  • Computer literate
  • Valid Drivers’ License, good driving record, preferred

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s Degree in an engineering field is preferred although relative work experience may be considered in conjunction with less formal education
  • 2 years’ experience performing installation or service on industrial equipment

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Must have basic reading and writing skills in the English language

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Able to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Basic data entry skills including how to print documents

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is typically a manufacturing plant or warehouse environment.  The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud with periods of noise requiring ear protection.
